First, we review the transformer nameplate and general condition. Useful photographs include the complete unit, the nameplate, bushings, radiators, enclosure, leaks or damage, and the loading area. The pickup ZIP code and site-access notes help determine whether standard freight, a flatbed, a step deck, rigging or crane support may be required.

Second, the equipment is screened for potential reuse and recovery. A functioning or repairable unit may have a different market than a failed unit. Transformer type, kVA or MVA rating, voltage class, manufacturer, year, condition and test history can all affect the available route. We do not publish a one-size-fits-all price because a defensible offer requires equipment-specific information.

Third, eligible projects receive a proposed next step. That may include a purchase offer, request for additional documentation, inspection condition, pickup plan or explanation of why a unit is not currently accepted. The exact downstream route and paperwork depend on the equipment and service plan confirmed for the job.

Why industrial sellers need a clear chain of responsibility

A transformer can contain valuable steel, copper, aluminum and reusable components, but oil-filled equipment also creates handling questions that ordinary mixed-metal recycling does not answer. The equipment owner should know who is collecting the unit, what information was provided, where responsibility changes hands and what documentation will be produced for the approved service.

Before scheduling, disclose known leaks, fire damage, missing data plates, oil type and any available PCB test information. If status is unknown, say so. Unknown is a useful answer because it allows the project team to identify what must be confirmed instead of relying on an unsafe assumption.
